Training workshops are held four days each year for all our parish youth in grades 5-12 who are interested in altar serving and have completed the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. At this training, all those present learn and review their roles for assisting at Mass. All current altar servers are required to participate in training at least once each school year.
Altar Server Schedule
Electronic Mail
We invite you to be on our electronic mailing list. Please send an email to olphaltarservers@hotmail.com and we will add you to the list for early delivery. Schedules, phone lists and updates are communicated via email.
If you cannot serve when you are scheduled...
Please use the phone list to contact other servers who typically serve at the same Mass time. If you cannot arrange for a substitute, at least contact the Team Leader to let him or her know you will not be there. Thanks - this will help everyone!
Intersested in Serving?
Boys and Girls entering the Fifth Grade (or higher) in the Fall, and who have received First Holy Communion, are invited to participate as Altar Servers to serve at the Masses of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. We typically have a minimum of two and a maximum of six Altar Servers at each Sunday (and Saturday Vigil) celebration. Special occasions, such as Benediction and Holy Days of Obligation also provide opportunities for service.
Youth serving in the Altar Server ministry have a great responsibility to perform their ministry to very specific requirements and standards. In order to give all participants in this ministry the best possible opportunity to learn the processes and procedures, training sessions are held throughout the year. (We hold these several times a year - dates and times are listed in the Sunday Bulletin). New servers are required to attend at least one session before they are placed on the server schedule. Youth who are already serving will be required to attend one session each year to review our parish's specific procedures and continued catechesis. Each session includes completing contact forms, teaching the scheduling process, reviewing our handbook for servers, and practicing Altar Server activities.
Parents are invited to attend the training sessions as an integral part of the service provided by our youth. Parents also share the responsibility to get Altar Servers to celebrations on time and properly dressed to serve. Our priests greatly appreciate Our Lady of Perpetual Help Altar Servers. If you are in the fifth through twelfth grades, this is an excellent service ministry in which you may participate. Thank you for your service!
